Donation from David Wilson Foundation opens up opportunities for young footballers

A donation from The David Wilson Foundation towards brand-new floodlights at the Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club has helped the Club create an Under-18’s side which intends to develop home-grown talent for the future.

The Foundation is one of the principal contributors to the floodlights and has made a donation of £15,000 towards the project to improve the ground.

Speaking on behalf of the Football Club, which has been established in Ashby De La Zouch for over 60 years, the Club’s Chairman, Stuart Bonser, commented:

“To have received this donation from The David Wilson Foundation has enabled the Club to secure the total necessary funding required to erect our state-of-the-art floodlights.

“The floodlights not only support our senior teams in their quest to progress up the local football league, but it also gives a significant opportunity for players of a much younger age to play at all times and seasons of the year. Without the donation from The David Wilson Foundation this may not have been possible to achieve and we thank the Foundation very much for its support.”

David Wilson officially switched on the new floodlights during a family football night at the Club in March 2009. He said,

“I am delighted that our Foundation has been able to contribute to Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club with these new floodlights. We very much support the Club’s ambition to open up more opportunities for the youngsters of the town to be involved in their Football Club and become the players of the future.

“Taking part in sport, at all levels, is a great thing for young people and brings benefits in every aspect of their lives. The Foundation believes that youngsters should be given as many chances as possible to develop skills and enjoyment in the sport of their choice.”
