Sarah Holey, Chair for Feed the Need Coalville, explains how a donation from The David Wilson Foundation helped the organisation support the local community.

David Wilson Foundation proactively approached Feed the Need Coalville

Someone working at Davidsons Homes made the Foundation aware of the great work they do at Feed the Need Coalville. Keen to help support local community projects, the Foundation contacted the Charity and offered a donation.

How has the grant funding helped?

Every bit of funding we get enables us to support people in need within our community. The grant funding support offered was a contribution of £500, which went towards purchasing long life food for our food bank. It's donations like this which help us to provide this critical lifeline to people in crisis. We are totally dependent upon donations and our marvellous team of volunteers. Our annual running costs are in the region of £25,000 and unfortunately in these economic times the need for what we do is growing. The key difference between us and other local food banks is we do not ask for referrals.

How did Feed the Need Coalville get started?

It was first set up as a pure voluntary operation in November 2019 by Felicity and Steve Middleton. Originally it operated from Hugglescote Community Centre, but in November 2020, Felicity found our current premises, which are in a much better location. We can now be found at the rear of the Belvoir Shopping Centre, and we’ve been operational here since January 2021.

Feed the Need Coalville successfully registered as a charity on 28th May 2021 and Felicity and Steve retired shortly after. The control of the charity was then handed over to a group of trusted volunteers, who had been involved in the project since the start.

We are 100% run by volunteers, and we’re always on the look-out for new volunteers. There’s loads of ways people can help, and it is fairly flexible for anyone wanting to do their bit. We also try to have fun! The people helping us come from all walks of life and all have a shared passion for helping others. If you’re interested in volunteering then please get in touch through our website.
