20 Laptops for Castle Rock School students

Castle Rock School students in Coalville, North West Leicestershire, were able to access home-learning during the 2021 lockdowns, thanks to a generous donation of 20 laptops by The David Wilson Foundation.

The Castle Rock School, an 11-18 academy that gained autonomy in August 2012, and faced unexpected difficulties in 2020, when the pandemic disrupted education worldwide. All UK education providers, including Castle Rock School, had to quickly adapt to remote teaching and learning. However, many schools and colleges were ill-prepared for this transition.

Although face-to-face learning resumed briefly during the autumn term, the start of the 2021 spring term brought another national lockdown and a return to predominantly remote learning.

David Wilson Foundation proactive approach to supporting local schools and colleges

Understanding the pressures faced by local education providers and the uncertainty of the times, the David Wilson Foundation stepped in to support Castle Rock School. The Foundation generously donated 20 laptops to ensure that all students had the necessary technology for home-learning.

Allowing our students to remain connected with the school and the vital teaching and learning resources it provides. Like all schools, we operate within tight budget constraints, so that we can provide a wide variety of resources and opportunities for our children. The support from the foundation ensured students from all backgrounds could be provided with the same access to these resources, support and guidance.

The laptops were returned to school and continue to be used in our Sixth Form Centre. We will always be grateful to The David Wilson Foundation for their support during a difficult period for our school community.”
